Petra, Jordan

Over 2000 years old, the ancient city of Petra is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Set amongst the mountains of Southern Jordan, Petra is half-built, half-carved into the rock, and is riddled with countless passages and gorges.  During it’s heyday Petra was a Nabataean caravan city and was approximately the size of two Manhattans.  As it is carefully situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea, it was an important crossroads between Arabia, Egypt and Syria-Phoenicia.  This incredible place bears a unique testimony of a disappeared civilization in which ancient Eastern traditions blended with Hellenistic architecture.

It was fascinating to see how the stone changed different color hues throughout the day.  We visited over two days and even the second day looked different from the first.

So incredible.
